Florence Duomo - Makin' Tracks wheelchair accessible tours

The appeal of Tuscany?
A warm embrace of rural tranquility, medieval hilltop villages, the world's greatest art, absorbing history, and excellent food & wine.

It's a place of dreams, inspiring artists since the beginning of history.  Apparently, no less than twenty per cent of the world's entire artistic heritage as listed by UNESCO lies within a 2 hour radius of our hotel.  That really is quite a boast.  One thing I can guarantee is that we won't get to see it all in our time here!

Tuscany was the birthplace of the Renaissance.  Most of what we think of as Western civilisation was either rediscovered or invented here.  View from Cortona - Makin' Tracks wheelchair accessible toursAnd its historical significance goes back to the Etruscans, who brought ancient Greek culture with them.  Even Noah (allegedly) passed by in his ark.

We intend these weeks to be more relaxed than our city tours, with time to unwind, and opportunities to enjoy the pool, particularly on our longer tour.  Nonetheless we’ll be out & about practically every day, as our itchy feet will compel us to share the region's charm with you.

Among our many visits we should see legendary Florence, leaning Pisa, enchanting Siena, sail to an island in Italy's 4th largest lake, Trasimeno, and join the pilgrims to St Francis' truly medieval town of Assisi.

We’ll stay in the quieter south, the Valdichiana, near to the cheerful maze-like Lucignano, across the valley from Cortona, the "crown jewel" of Tuscan hill towns.

Accommodation & Dining
The Girasoli (sunflower) is a hotel designed for accessibility, with all areas, including both the indoor & outdoor swimming pools, wheelchair accessible. All rooms have roll-in showers.Girasoli Outdoor Pool - Makin' Tracks wheelchair accessible tours
The hotel is in a pleasant rural location, within its own extensive grounds, looking out to woods in the foreground and hilltop towns in the distance.

The Girasoli’s accommodation comes as half board, so we will be taking both breakfast and dinner on site.  Our experience is that the chef creates excellent authentic Italian dishes.

Weather

Average highs of 23ºC in May, and 23 dry days per month, according to online resources.

Airlines fly to Tuscany from most of the London airports, and also Manchester, Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, Bristol, & Bournemouth. We found that no single day of the week was ideal for all of these, so we decided to work flexibly with this in mind.  We identified days which gave flights at sociable hours from airports near to our particular clients, and propose to adjust arrival & departure days to suit individuals.

We are offering two tours.
Tour 1 will run from 9th, 10th, or 11th May for different clients, with departures 18th & 19th.
Tour 2 will be more conventional, from 19th to 26th May, with one client staying until 27th.

Our packages do not include flights  (Click here to learn why).
However, we are more than happy to assist in identifying the best value and most suitable flights for you, and indeed need to liaise with all clients prior to ticket purchase in order to be sure all the transfers to & from hotel are feasible.

Below are some flights that our clients are likely to use, with links for more details
(To simplify results, remove tick from "+1" & "+2" stops in left column).
